Music Magazine Pitch

From making this pitch I learn't how to produce my magazine so it will sell well. This was done by taking time to think about how it fits in the market and how it compares to other magazines. I know now what tasks I need to do to produce a successful magazine.

Mood board and Video Analysis

From doing this task I got a lot of inspiration for what I want to do for my final idea. By exploring other music magazines, taking the best parts out, and analysing them I learnt a lot about what is good to use and what doesn't work so well. I also made sure I looked at classic/modern Rock magazines as this will fit with my genre.

Thinking of a concept

From doing this task I learn't what the concept for my idea was going to be, this has given me a clear idea of what I need to do throughout this project and will help me greatly should I get stuck at any point.

Contents Analysis

Formatting Research

From this task I learnt that simplicity is a key factor in classic rock magazine. This would be because Simplicity compliments classic style. They compliment each other because if your into classic Rock you would more than likely be older and wiser. This would mean you don't need all this pointless glam to attract you, you already like it and know what you want. The editors know this and keep there style simple and straight to the point so it isn't an eye strain to look at.

Flatplan of Classic Rock

From this task I learnt that Music magazines have a lot of adverts, wether they be tour dates to do with music, or gaming award adverts. Also I learnt that the contents page isn't always on the first page, sometimes there is a mini article or editors notes before the contents is introduced. More over sometimes  there are adverts or other topics in the middle of a long interview, this could be to separate a long article or ad a bit of variety. Also, and I can't image why, but they put Bob Geldof's interview right at the back  of the magazine. This could be because Classic Rock don't see him as important, or it could be he's there as a little treat for the reader to find.

Survey Analysis

This is my Prezi, It summarises my survey and what I learn't from each question. From My Prezi I learn't that I should aim my magazine at a more male audience, I'll do this by adding more masculine colours like black and red and avoiding whites and pink. This way at a glance my magazine will be identified as a masculine magazine. I also found out that half of the people who took my survey were under the age of 17. This means though I'll have to make my magazine age appropriate, I won't design it for kids. At the end of the day it is a Rock magazine, therefore it would be unrealistic and pointless to tone down the key concepts for the sake of younger readers. I found out that people who took my survey are already readers of Rock magazines. This means that it will be easier for me to grab there attention as they are already interested in the genre of my magazine. Another thing I learnt from my survey is that the majority of people aren't interested in reviews, but more interested in articles and information. Though that doesn't mean I will ignore the use of reviews completely as they are a key concept of a music magazine, I will cut down on them and focus more on articles and information. I also learnt hat I should lay out my front cover so the main band or artist is in the centre of the magazine. I will also make sure that there information on the cover of the magazine about what is inside as it will help the buyer have a clear understanding of what is in the product they are about to purchase. Finally I will make sure my magazine is sold in a Newsagents as that is a popular place to buy magazines.
